One person was killed, 18 were driven to local hospitals for treatment and three were still missing, according to New Orleans Fire Superintendent Timothy McConnell and EMS Director Dr. Emily Nichols.

The city's fire department received a call about the collapse just after 9 a.m. Police and emergency medical services also responded. The city's fire chief says at least 3 people are unaccounted for - all of whom are reportedly contractors who were working on-site.

Three people are still missing, and there are no reports of injury to passers-by.

"It's still a very unsafe situation", he said.

It's unclear what exactly caused the building to cave - doesn't sound like the construction site was all that safe to begin with.

At least one person is dead and several people are unaccounted for, according to Louisiana State Governor John Bel Edwards.
