"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" will not be released as previously planned in China.

Whatever the reason behind it, the cancellation is clearly a major blow to Sony's box office prospects, as the studio was banking on the OUATIH's Chinese release to bring the film's $366 million current worldwide totals over $400 million.

Shannon Lee reportedly took her complaint directly to China's National Film Administration, although it has yet to confirm the movie's on hold. The film may have to undergo re-editing to see a proper release.

Citing unnamed sources, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter said Lee's daughter, Shannon Lee, triggered the delay of the film's government-approved October 25 opening by demanding changes to her late father's portrayal.

Lee's daughter, Shannon, has been vocal in her criticisms of the portrayal, calling the depiction "disheartening" and a "mockery".

Los Angeles Angels Name Joe Maddon New Manager
The Angels' organization and fans are hopeful Maddon will get the team back on track and lead them to another postseason run. Maddon's managerial career away from Anaheim began with two losing seasons in Tampa Bay, but has been impressive ever since.

Tarantino has defended the depiction, saying it is meant to be fictional, as Lee interacts with Brad Pitt's fictional stuntman Cliff Booth in the film.

I have my own reservations about the Bruce Lee scene (which I find to be the one stumble in a remarkably contemplative Tarantino film), but Lee appealing to the censors in China comes at a politically tumultuous time when the country has become more severe about slights to its government.

This isn't the first time a Tarantino movie has been met with controversy in China.

But Tarantino refuses to edit the film, especially since China hasn't given an explanation as to why it was pulled from release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
