Tokyo police declined comment on the specifics of the investigation but confirmed Friday that 26-year-old Hibiki Sato was arrested September 17 on suspicion of indecent behavior in connection with stalking and causing injuries to the 20-year-old woman.

A Japanese pop star was allegedly attacked outside her home by a crazed fan who figured out her address from selfies she posted on social media.

Hibiki Sato, an unemployed 26-year-old, waited for the singer to come home at a nearby bus stop and crept up behind her as she approached her door, covering her mouth with a rag before dragging her into a "dark corner" and molesting her, according to local media.

The police official spoke on condition of anonymity as is often policy at Japanese bureaucracies. Japan has many young female performance groups.

An investigator in the case reportedly warned people of the dangers of divulging personal information via social media.

Public broadcaster NHK and other Japanese media reported this week that Sato allegedly used the high-resolution images of the woman's pupils to figure out which train station the woman frequented.

Police say he hurt her and committed indecent acts, such as groping her after accosting her from behind and knocking her down.

He also said he had studied videos the woman shot in her apartment, looking at details such as the placement of curtains and the direction of natural light coming through the window to try to determine exactly which floor she lived on, reports said.
