According to a U.S. Air Force spokesperson, the plane crashed during a routine training flight.

A pilot from the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem AB, Germany, successfully ejected from their F-16 when it crashed October 8 in a rural area near the base.

Base spokeswoman Angela Watson confirmed the plane crashed around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and the pilot was safe. She provided no immediate details about the cause of the crash.

A U.S. air force spokeswoman said the jet had crashed at around 1500 local time (1300 GMT) during a routine training flight and that there had been no casualties.

The statement said that the pilot ejected safely but sustained minor injuries.
