Rescuers were searching for four crew members who went missing after a cargo ship overturned and caught fire off the Georgia coast, the U.S. Coast Guard said Sunday.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the Golden Ray cargo ship was leaving Brunswick when it drastically leaned to its side early Sunday.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston were notified by Glynn County 911 of the emergency around 2 a.m. Sunday mornin and directed the launch of multiple Coast Guard units to assist. The Coast Guard does not believe that the four missing crewmembers are submerged below water, but believe that they remain on board somewhere on the craft. The vessel, which is 656 feet long, is still listing heavily in the St. Simon's Sound.

The four South Koreans are presumed to be caught in the engine room of the Golden Ray, a auto transport vessel of Hyundai Glovis Co., a logistics unit of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group.

Officials said that all vessel traffic in the Port of Brunswick is suspended unless approved by the captain of the port.

Dramatic footage released by the Coast Guard showed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter hovering over the Golden Ray as crew members were lifted to safety.

Search and rescue operations involve federal, state and local agencies. It looks like sudden loss of stability, which may be caused by faulty ballasting, or cargo shift, or a mass of water on cargo deck - one of main dangers for ships with cargo compartments going throughout the ship both in length and width, like vehicle carriers or ro-ro ferries.

The National Transportation Safety Board is supporting the investigation, the agency said in a tweet, with two NTSB investigators assigned to the incident. Hurricane Dorian brushed past the Georgia coast last week before being downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone.

According to Vesselfinder.com, the Golden Ray was built in 2017, and was scheduled to arrive in Baltimore on Monday night.

The name of the ship's owner was not immediately available.
