Netanyahu told reporters on Monday that Iran had secretly pursued a nuclear program at a site in Abadeh in Fars Province.

Israel's prime minister has unveiled what he says is a previously undisclosed Iranian nuclear weapons site.

The disclosure of this new nuclear weapons research site comes on the heels of Iran's decision to abandon its commitments under the landmark nuclear deal and run full throttle with the advanced enrichment of uranium, the key component in a nuclear weapon.

Israel considers Iran to be its greatest enemy, and Mr Netanyahu has been a leading opponent to the global nuclear deal with Tehran.

Netanyahu, who is about to fight his second general election this year after the first failed to produce a clear victor, added: 'Our message to Iran is: Israel knows what you're doing, Israel knows when you're doing it, and Israel knows where you are doing it. He said the global community should exert more pressure on Iran.

Pointing to satellite images of the compound, in the central Iranian town of Abadeh, he said Israel uncovered its existence in nuclear archives captured from Iran.

Last year, Netanyahu made a splash with a showy press conference - during which he stood in front of a bookcase filled with the allegedly top-secret Iranian files - and claimed the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal was "based on lies." .

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hit again at Netanyahu on Twitter late Monday expressing "the possessor of Genuine nukes cries wolf-on an ALLEGED "demolished" web page in Iran". United States intelligence officials have made the same conclusion.

The deal has steadily unravelled since then and caused tensions to heighten across the Persian Gulf and broader Middle East.

Iran has installed more advanced centrifuges and moved towards enriching uranium with them, which the deal bans. Iran had already announced the step, its latest violation of the nuclear deal, as it tries to pressure European signatories to find a way to maintain oil shipments and ease the toll of US sanctions on the Iranian economy.

The Israeli elections, due to be held on September 17, will be the second this year, less than six months after the previous elections were held in April.

"Netanyahu is all over again employing intelligence information and facts for his election propaganda", Yair Lapid of the centrist Blue and White alliance claimed on Twitter.

Prior to discussing the Abadeh site, the PM noted that Iran had earlier-in a similar fashion-wiped out a "secret nuclear warehouse". However, their goal could not be immediately determined. A dirt road appeared to be the only access to the site in a March 27 image. Neither satellite photo showed any visible activity at the time the photographs was taken.
