Iran: EU failing to save nuclear deal U.S. will slap sanctions on whoever purchases Iran's oil

Iran's nuclear chief said on Sunday that European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal have failed to fulfill their commitments under the pact.

Falk said the Director General's report to the Board was to lay out everything the inspectors discovered during their visit and in their discussions with Iranian officials.

The IAEA has asked Iran to explain the traces, but so far Tehran has not done so, according to the report.

The IAEA takes environmental samples because they can pick up telltale particles even long after material has been removed from a site. In a Saturday article headlined "Iran Breaks With More Limits in Nuclear Deal as It Pushes for European Aid", the paper makes the point that while Iran, four months ago, had been "continuing to comply" with the limits on nuclear fuel refining imposed under the deal that the U.S. had violated by reimposing sanctions lifted under that agreement, but that the Tehran was now saying it would "no longer abide by" an agreement that the United States was violating. "If it's going to be one-way, the Islamic Republic of Iran will definitely make the right decisions at the right time like it has done with these three steps", he said.

Addressing the IAEA quarterly board meeting a day after discussions with high-level officials in Tehran, Cornel Feruta said that in his meetings he "stressed the need for Iran to respond promptly to agency questions related to the completeness of Iran's safeguards declarations". The Agency will continue its efforts and will remain actively engaged. "Time is of the essence".

Mandelker then noted that Iranian oil sales have taken a "serious nose dive" because of USA pressure.

President Trump's National Security Adviser, a long-time hawk on Iran, alluded to the revelation that uranium was found at the facility in a tweet over the weekend, saying it proved Iran "may be concealing nuclear material and/or activities".

Since ditching the nuclear deal, calling it skewed to Iran's advantage, Trump has reimposed sanctions to strangle its vital oil trade and force Tehran to accept stricter limits on its nuclear activity, curb its ballistic missile programme and end its support for proxy forces around the Middle East.

After the IAEA assessment was released on Monday, Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz called on the remaining signatories of the 2015 deal to follow the USA example by abandoning the accord and re-imposing sanctions on the Islamic Republic. But it did say Iran's cooperation could be better.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who vehemently opposes Iran's nuclear deal with major powers, first pointed to the site past year, calling it a "secret atomic warehouse" and saying it had housed unspecified radioactive material that had since been removed.

The JCPOA has been under mounting pressure since the U.S. withdrew from the deal in May 2018 and then re-introduced sanctions on Iran.

A centrifuge enriches uranium by spinning uranium hexafluoride gas.

Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia and the European Union have been trying to salvage the Obama administration-era agreement that limits Iran to operating 5,060 older-model IR-1 centrifuges.

In the meantime, Iran is breaching the deal's restrictions on its nuclear activities step-by-step in response to what it calls USA "economic warfare".
