Alyssa Michelle Hatcher, 17, was charged with two counts of criminal solicitation for murder at the discretion of her mother and stepfather - Tammy Hatcher Scheller and Michael Scheller.

Deputies with the sheriff's department shared that they were contacted by a juvenile witness who said that Hatcher had given a friend "a lot of money" so that they could find someone to kill her parents.

A Florida teen has been accused of stealing her parents' debit card and using it to help fund paying two people to kill them, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The girl's boyfriend told investigators he had seen her at "a known drug house" where she told him she wanted to kill her parents, according to the affidavit.

The act wasn't carried out by the first person, so Hatcher then reportedly gave $900 (£730) to an unnamed "black male" to kill her parents.

Investigators say she stole her parents' debit card and used $100 to buy cocaine.

During a recorded interview with investigators at her home, Hatcher allegedly admitted to the plot, according to the affidavit.

Lake County Sheriff's Sergeant Fred Jones told local station WFTV, "The parents are good people, outstanding citizens".

The parents of 17-year-old Alyssa Hatcher called police Sunday night after discovering they were missing large chunks of money.

An incident report prepared by the Tavares High school resource deputy said the student who tipped her off to the plot told her the girl who accepted the $400 received a text from the suspect that "she was not mad that she took the money but did not carry out the request, she just wants it taken care of". Her parents intend to press charges, the affidavit says.

Umatilla police also arrested the girl on theft charges, according to the report.

A regard of Hatcher's Instagram profile shows the teen having been on the cheerleading team at Umatilla High.

The teenager was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail earlier this week.
