Daytime nap once a week lowers risk of heart attack and stroke
How taking one or two naps a week may lower your risk of having heart attack or stroke

Writing on the clinical impact of their study they wrote, "Subjects who nap once or twice per week have a lower risk for incident CVD events, while no association was found for more frequent napping or napping duration".
In a connected publication, Drs Yue Leng and Kristine Yaffe, of the University of California at San Francisco, USA, note that investigation into snoozing is risky due to there being no best quality level for characterizing and estimating rests, making it untimely to finish up on the fittingness of resting for keeping up ideal heart wellbeing.
In case you're wondering, around one in five of the participants, who were aged between 35 and 75 when the study started, napped once or twice a week.
Other limitations to bear in mind are that the study relied on self-reporting as far as the number of naps went, and there were relatively few CVD events (155) in total, which makes it more hard to draw broad conclusions. They categorized napping frequency as, "non-nappers, 1-2 naps, 3-5 naps and 6-7 naps during the previous week".
Taking a nap during daytime cannot only refresh you but also lower the risk of heart attack or stroke if taken once or twice in a week, found a new study. But no such link was established for more frequent siestas or napping duration.
"This throws a little bit of a curveball, because they found one to two naps per week might be beneficial", St-Onge said. "They added, ".occasional napping might be a result of a physiological compensation allowing for a decrease in stress due to insufficient nocturnal sleep and thus could have a beneficial effect on CVD events". Another 12 percent took three to five.
Whether or not napping brings any health benefits to the table is still an ongoing debate.
"This association held true after taking account of potentially influential factors, such as age, and night-time sleep duration, as well as other cardiovascular disease risks, such as high blood pressure and cholesterol", she said.
And it didn't change after factoring in excessive daytime sleepiness, depression, and regularly sleeping for at least 6 hours a night.
The only factors that influenced this link were older age (65+) and severe sleep apnea. But no such association emerged for either greater frequency or duration of naps.
According to Naveed Sattar, a Metabolic Medicine professor at the University of Glasgow, biweekly napping could aid heart health but the same benefit might likely not apply to people who nap more frequently. "Do we count in a 5 min "dozing-off" as a nap?" wrote Yue Leng, an epidemiologist studying sleep behavior at the University of California San Francisco, in an editorial published alongside the new study. "However, when we took sociodemographic, lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors into account, this increased risk disappeared".
Hearty naps " The study of napping is a challenging but also a promising field with potentially significant public health implications", the authors explain.
The researchers discovered that those that napped a few times per week have been 48% much less prone to expertise these points, even when different elements have been taken under consideration.
