Amber Rudd should never have joined a Government with which she disagreed

Rudd said in her resignation letter: "I joined your cabinet in good faith: Accepting that "no deal" had to be on the table, because it was the means by which we would have the best chance of achieving a new deal to leave on 31 October".

Rudd joined Johnson's cabinet with the understanding that the United Kingdom would only crash out of the European Union without an exit deal as a last resort, and that prospect would help it strike an agreement, she wrote.

"I can not stand by as good, loyal moderate Conservatives are expelled", she said referring to Johnson's decision to expel 21 MPs from the Conservative party for voting against the government on Brexit.

Mr Farage has written in the Sunday Telegraph that he is "100 per cent" honest about the offer and aims to help Prime Minister Boris Johnson "return to Downing Street".

"If they hadn't, we would have left the European Union by now and some of those people in Cabinet".

"I don't think they are starting to panic or getting nervous", he said. It has been an absolute honour to be the MP for Hastings & Rye.

Writing in the Mail on Sunday, she said Mr Bercow "hasn't just bent the rules, he has broken them", adding that a general election this autumn would bring an opportunity to "give us back an impartial Speaker".

He told Sky News's Sophy Ridge on Sunday: "I'm really sorry to see Amber step down, I like her, I respect her".

Two days after the prime minister made the remarks, Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State Dominic Raab told Sophy Ridge on Sky News on Sunday that "the prime minister is sticking to his guns" and that even though "we're going to keep going on with the negotiations" with the European Union to remove the controversial Irish backstop from the withdrawal treaty, "we must leave come what may" on Halloween.

Rudd went on to claim that cabinet ministers had not been privy to legal advice shared with the prime minister about the upcoming prorogation of Parliament until mid-October.

"It's been a rough week, but the reality is the Prime Minister is sticking to his guns on what he said to get us out of this rut that we're in".

But allies of Boris Johnson defended the move, with Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab insisting the former London mayor was "right to restore some discipline". "It's because of the consequences now, 21 senior colleagues expelled and the lack of planning for on actually getting a deal, which makes my position untenable".

Nigel Farage has argued that the Brexit Party should be granted an electoral pact by the Conservatives to contest Labour seats.
