Gun control advocates on Friday were outraged to learn of Walmart's so-called plan to combat gun violence less than a week after 22 people were shot to death in one of its stores in El Paso, Texas-rather than ending its status as one of the largest purveyors of guns in the US, the corporation asked employees to remove store displays that show "violent themes or aggressive behavior".

Turn off or unplug any video game consoles that show a demo of violent games, specifically PlayStation and Xbox units.

According to an internal memo shared on social media, the company is temporarily pulling violent video game displays from its stores.

Walmart is making changes to the video game and hunting departments, but it's not doing anything new about guns. The company can decide for itself how it wants to advertise its products and whether it wants to continue selling guns or violent video games.

"Remove your store for any signing or displays that contain violent images or aggressive behavior". This past Monday, Thomas Marshall, a California-based corporate employee, sent a mass email to workers calling for a strike until the company decides to stop selling firearms. House told EW in regards to this matter, "We are focused on assisting our associates and their families, as well as supporting the community, as we continue a thoughtful and thorough review of our policies".

Crusius lived near Dallas, and El Paso police say he drove more than 10 hours to the largely Latino border city in Texas to carry out the shooting that killed 22 people and wounded about two dozen others. Two employees were killed in a shooting at a Mississippi Walmart on July 30. In February 2018, Walmart, along with Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS), raised the age for buying guns to 21 and stopped selling assault-style weapons in their stores. Now after a series of recent deadly shootings, the company is facing increased pressure to stop selling guns.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon also issued a note to store employees promising "thoughtful and deliberate" responses to such tragedies. Following the tragedies, some politicians, including President Donald Trump, have cited violent video games as one of the contributors to such incidents. Early Sunday, nine people died in a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio.

Video games are being criticized by some for their glorification of violence. The weapons they sell are killing their own customers and employees.

Update: Walmart reached out to IGN to clarify their comments regarding this policy.
