China is "blackmailing" India into using Huawei for its 5G infrastructure, an influential US Congressman said on Tuesday, even as Beijing hoped that New Delhi will not succumb to any pressure from the United States.

India will be conducting trials for the installation of the next-generation 5G cellular network in the next few months.

Huawei was the world's number two smartphone producer past year, ahead of Apple and behind South Korea's Samsung, but the firm has emerged as a key bone of contention in the wider China-US trade war.

Certain Indian firms such as Infosys, TCS, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Reliance Industries and Mahindra & Mahindra have a presence in China in manufacturing, healthcare, financial services and outsourcing.

Earlier, the Indian Prime Minister's Principal Scientific Adviser reportedly recommended that India should initiate 5G without the involvement of Huawei.

The principle proper-wing group tied to Modi's ruling alliance, which has a protracted-standing mistrust of China and promotes self- reliance within the economic system, has stepped up criticism of Huawei.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), widely regarded as the parent organization of ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party in India, said it's unsure of "relying on Huawei".

"We as a rustic should not but positive of counting on Huawei". It also brought up the allegations against Huawei of trying to "position themselves and their establishment back home to snoop and enable them to shut remotely, if required be". While the names of the firms have not been revealed, companies such as Sweden's Ericsson, Finland's Nokia and South Korea's Samsung Electronics are expected to participate.

Huawei has long claimed it does not nor can it spy for the Chinese government.

The inside ministry, which is chargeable for the safety of the infrastructure, had issued no directive to curtail Huawei's entry, the telecoms official mentioned.

"We firmly support the relevant Chinese companies in taking up legal weapons to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests", she said in an online statement.

That ban, which has been suspended until mid-August, could prevent Huawei from getting key hardware and software including smartphone chips and key elements of the Google Android operating system.
