Trump denounces white supremacy after shootings, cites video games and internet

President Donald Trump on Monday proposed tighter monitoring of the internet, mental health reform and wider use of the death penalty in response to mass shootings over the weekend that killed 31 people in Texas and Ohio. He said in addition to allowing such people to get treatment, some should be subjected to "involuntary confinement" should they pose too great of a public risk.

Trump has previously tempered his criticism of white supremacy, though he said in scripted remarks to the nation earlier Monday that the nation "must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy".

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former President Barack Obama said Monday, in his first public statement since a pair of mass shootings in Texas and OH, that Americans must "soundly reject language" from any leader who "feeds a climate of fear and hatred or normalizes racist sentiments". Texas authorities said they were close to linking the El Paso suspect to an anti-immigrant screedthat was posted online shortly before the attack.

The two massacres over the weekend have reignited the divisive debate around gun control and exposing the deadly threat of domestic terrorism, radicalization of youth and white supremacy.

"I've asked the FBI to investigate and disrupt hate crimes and domestic terrorism".

He arrived in Washington with a record of only 13-10 for the year. "This week, I think he wanted to play, and it was tough". His 5-1 record against top 10 players this year - the best on tour - is the ideal example of that.

USA must condemn white supremacy
Likewise for those so seriously wounded. "We have done much more than most administrations", he said, without elaboration. US President Donald Trump wants the death penalty to be "delivered quickly and decisively" when deemed necessary.

"There's mental illness & hate throughout world, but US stands alone w/high rate of gun violence", she said on Twitter.

Trump did not address accusations that his own anti-immigrant and racially charged comments have contributed to a rise in race tensions, nor did he call for broad gun control measures. He said the Internet, social media and violent video games had helped radicalize people. The NRA, however, is in disarray, with allegations of corruption and a power struggle at the top of the organization rocking the gun lobbying group over the past year.

Monday's blunder is far from Trump's first misstatement. "We must stop or substantially reduce this and it has to begin immediately". President Trump is known for anti-immigrant rhetoric, repeatedly referring to a migrant caravan at the U.S. -Mexico border as an "invasion".

Trump called on law enforcement and tech companies to work together to "identify disturbed minds who may commit acts of violence".
