Sony Marvel Spider-Man Deal Ending After Dispute Over Money

Spider-Man Far From Home becomes Sony’s highest grossing film 'Spider-Man: Far from Home' Surpasses 'Skyfall' as Sony's Highest-Grossing Film Ever

A dispute that has taken place over the past few months at the top of Disney and Sony has essentially nixed Feige, and the future involvement of Marvel from the Spider-Man universe, sources said.

There are now two more "Spider-Man" films in development with Tom Holland and director John Watts attached, however they will go forward without the guidance of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Watts and Holland are part of the creative template for the upcoming Spider-Man films, along with producer Amy Pascal. This move comes after Disney and Sony were unable to come to a new agreement that would have seen the Mouse House getting a co-financing stake with future Spidey movies. A larger share would've meant that Disney would make more on the backend.

It's been a mutually beneficial relationship thus far, and there's no reason to think it won't continue to be fruitful in the next inevitable Spider-Man sequel.

Sony Pictures should be thankful for its friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Sony has confirmed that those in the US and Canada will be able to attend the Spider-Man: Far From Home re-release in standard-format showings as well as in IMAX and large-format screenings, available at select locations. It's an understandable response - who wouldn't get hyped up about the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe installment scoring a re-release? - but it's also a little hasty. That's an impressive feat, and one can't help but point to Avengers: Endgame as a contributing factor to Far from Home's success. Feige's reputation speaks for itself, and cutting him out of the franchise is like throwing Iron Man off a cliff just before the final battle with Thanos. After all, you have to imagine that a portion of the audience that saw Avengers: Endgame-the highest grossing movie of all time-was then spurred to see Far from Home in theaters. But maybe there will still be discussions between Sony and Marvel in that regard, despite that fact that Kevin Feige won't be producing.
