Jeremy Corbyn has called for cross-party co-operation among MPs opposed to Boris Johnson'sBrexit strategy, and set out further details of his ambitious plan to block no deal before October 31st.
The Labour leader said the administration would be "strictly time-limited" and that he would seek an extension to the Article 50 process to delay the United Kingdom leaving the European Union past the October 31 deadline.
The Independent Group for Change leader Anna Soubry, who was not sent the letter, said Mr Corbyn "doesn't even command respect and support from his own party never mind across the political divide".
He said that while he believed Johnson wanted a deal, "there are other people around him whose agenda is different" an apparent reference to advisers such as Dominic Cummings, one of the architects of the country's 2016 decision to leave the EU.
Independent MP Gavin Shuker said there would be no majority in Parliament for a Government led by Mr Corbyn.
Mr Corbyn asked opposition figures and Tory rebels for their support in a letter on Wednesday, pledging that a government led by him would be "strictly time-limited".
However, his chances of success were crippled by the Leader of the anti-Brexit Liberal Democrat party, Jo Swinson, who said Mr. Corbyn was not the right figurehead for an emergency government.
