Jeremy Corbyn has called for cross-party co-operation among MPs opposed to Boris Johnson's Brexit strategy, and set out further details of his ambitious plan to block no deal before October 31st.

The Labour leader said the administration would be "strictly time-limited" and that he would seek an extension to the Article 50 process to delay the United Kingdom leaving the European Union past the October 31 deadline.

The Independent Group for Change leader Anna Soubry, who was not sent the letter, said Mr Corbyn "doesn't even command respect and support from his own party never mind across the political divide".

He said that while he believed Johnson wanted a deal, "there are other people around him whose agenda is different" an apparent reference to advisers such as Dominic Cummings, one of the architects of the country's 2016 decision to leave the EU.

Independent MP Gavin Shuker said there would be no majority in Parliament for a Government led by Mr Corbyn.

Mr Corbyn asked opposition figures and Tory rebels for their support in a letter on Wednesday, pledging that a government led by him would be "strictly time-limited".

However, his chances of success were crippled by the Leader of the anti-Brexit Liberal Democrat party, Jo Swinson, who said Mr. Corbyn was not the right figurehead for an emergency government.

"And our European friends are not moving in their willingness to compromise, they're not compromising at all on the Withdrawal Agreement even though it's been thrown out three times, they're sticking to every letter, every comma of the Withdrawal Agreement - including the backstop - because they still think Brexit can be blocked in Parliament". Brussels says it won't renegotiate.

Johnson lashed out during a Facebook Q&A session, accusing opponents of trying to undermine the result of the 2016 referendum.

"There's a awful kind of collaboration, as it were, going on between people who think they can block Brexit in Parliament and our European friends", he said. In an open challenge to the former Leave Campaign Manager Tom Barton, Hammond told BBC 4 Radio that "the unelected people who pull the strings of this government" are asking the European Union for impossible concessions that are leading to no-deal. "The hardliners may make the most noise but they are not the most numerous". Pro-Brexit forces say that while leaving without a deal could be bumpy, it would not be as bad as Remainers claim - and have accused them of engaging in "Project Fear".

Lawmakers return from their summer break on September 3, reconvening for a battle over Brexit that will determine the fortunes of the world's fifth-largest economy.

Later that week, the first hearing of a legal challenge backed by a cross-party group of 75 MPs and peers will take place in court in Scotland.

Sputnik: Could Brexit be cancelled, and what would the public's reaction be to this should it happen?

It continued with Philip Hammond, the former Chancellor and prominent Remainer, threatening to vote against his own government in any motion of no confidence.

With Parliament the main obstacle to Mr. Johnson's "do or die" pledge, lawmakers are urgently seeking a way to remove him or change the law to delay Brexit. Sputnik spoke on the issue with the Brexit Party's Diane James.

In his letter, the Labour leader wrote: "Our priority should be to work together in Parliament to prevent a deeply damaging no-deal".
