Healthcare services at government hospitals, including All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Safdarjung and RML in Delhi, are likely to be severely hit with resident doctors deciding to withdraw all kind of services, including that of emergency department, on August 1 to protest the introduction of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
The resident doctors at various government hospitals in the national capital will continue their strike for the third consecutive day on Saturday, intensifying their protest against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill.
However, around midnight, most of the RDAs announced that they have resumed emergency services.
The bill seeks to regulate medical education and practices in India. Emergency services are running.
"I have been asked by the ministry to inform you that if the doctors do not resume duties immediately, strong punitive action like suspension/termination of service, evacuation of hostel accommodation will be initiated against all doctors on strike", Dr Sunil Gupta, medical director at Safdarjung Hospital, said in the memorandum addressed to the hospital's Resident Doctors Association president.

Section 15 (1) of the bill proposes a common final-year MBBS exam, the National Exit Test (NEXT), before an individual starts practising medicine and for seeking admission to post-graduate medical courses and for enrolment in the State Register or the National Register.
Doctors have shown their dissatisfaction over the ambiguity of the Bill.
Dr Prakash Thakur, RDA-President, Safdarjung Hospital, said the protest will continue. Similarly, they are disagreeing the concept of Community Health Providers (CHP) included in the Bill.
The Bill aims to provide for a medical education system that improves access to quality and affordable medical education, ensures availability of adequate and high quality medical professionals in all parts of the country. "The provisions of the said bill are nothing short of draconian and promote gross incompetence and mockery of the professionals now working day and night", the joint statement said.
Asserting that concerns pertaining to medical fraternity have not been adequately addressed, they have appealed to lawmakers across party lines to demand, discuss and see that their concerns are addressed when the Bill is reintroduced in the Lok Sabha for ratification of official amendments by Rajya Sabha. It will decrease the representation of elected members from 75 per cent in MCI to 20 per cent in NMC.
