Lack of action: Tears and shouting as Australia dilutes Pacific climate warning

Scott Morrison Seems To Have Confused A Climate Forum For A Grey Swinger’s Cruise To Tahiti Australia Reportedly Wussing Out Of Referencing "Coal" At Pacific Climate Talks

Pacific leaders have warned the world faces a climate crisis and complained their message on global warming had been "watered down" at Australia's insistence. "I am concerned about saving my people in Tuvalu", Sopoaga said. "This can be assisted by advance economies", Marape said.

Pacific island nations affected by the climate crisis will continue to survive "because many of their workers come here to pick our fruit", Australia's deputy prime minister has said.

"We call on all countries and non-state actors to join with the Blue Pacific in taking bold, decisive and transformative action to address the ever-present challenges of climate change", the leaders said in the Kainaki II Declaration for Urgent Climate Change Action Now, which was issued on Friday.

In today's discussion, Marape is expected to propose a strategy to involve bigger nations to assist smaller nations exposed to climate change by modelling them, finding ways using modern technology to prevent sea-level rise, build-up land reclamation programmes that could be beneficial in the long-term.

New Zealand's $150 million funding injection for the Pacific region's response to climate changes comes as pressure is put on Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison to do more.

The forum will end tomorrow.

During negotiations Mr Morrison briefed the other leaders on his government's climate achievement, claiming they were surprised about Australia's emissions reductions.

A delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) yesterday arrived in Tuvalu for the Pacific Islands Forum.

Unwilling to budge on the issue at the PIF, Australia is now looking for allies to prevent agreement among the other 17 Forum members, and Morrison acknowledged tension among the group.

The majority of the 18 nations at the forum agreed to stronger climate goals, with only Australia - and to a lesser extent New Zealand - holding objections.

The Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Tuvalu this week has ended in open division over climate change.

Add to this his recent hosting of the new PNG prime minister, James Marape, and it is clear there has been significant energy devoted to establishing personal relationships with some of the leaders he will sit down with this week.

Morrison was met with an uncompromising mood in by leaders in Tuvalu.

Morrison said Australia's stance would not dent its standing in the region.

"We're not just going to show up here, we're going to show up for the hard conversations, the bad conversations, family conversations". Do we offer open immigration to those Pacific Islands that we have close ties with (including the Realm of NZ), do we allow permanent displaced Pacific Government's to have a level of representative autonomy on NZ land and help manage their economic zones and provide revenue for that?
