Chennai: Ex-Indian cricketer and Tamil Nadu opener, VB Chandrasekhar (57), was found dead at his home at Mylapore in Chennai and police have said it was a suicide.

Born on August 21, 1961, Chandrasekhar was an aggressive batsman who represented India in seven ODIs between 1988 and 1990.

VB coached the Tamil Nadu Ranji team and was continually involved with the game.

He scored 160 in the quarter-finals against Uttar Pradesh and 89 in the final against Railways before following that up with a 56-ball fourth-innings century in the Irani Trophy against Rest of India, at the time the fastest ton in first-class cricket by an Indian. In 81First class matches he piled up 4999 runs at 43.09 including 10 centuries. The former right-handed batsman was also a national selector for sometime after which he had his stint as a manager of the Chennai Super Kings team for three years.

Currently, VB has a side named VB Kanchi Veerans in Tamil Nadu Premier League and was spotted at the stadium when his side clashed against Siechem Madurai Panthers in the playoffs few days ago.

"Terrible news.VB.too soon. Shocking! My condolences to his family".
