Facebook is finally testing Dark Mode

Emmett Howard | 13 August, 2019, 21:23

Wong notes in her blog that Facebook's new FB5 app design is exceptionally bright and nearly entirely white, making it potentially harmful to people's eyesight when used in dark environments. That's why developers are increasingly adopting Dark Mode in their apps.

Wong posted a screenshot showing how the dark theme could look in the main Facebook app. The social media firm introduced "Dark Mode" in its Messenger app earlier this year and is now said to soon bring it to its main app as well. Heck, we're surprised it's taken them this long, considering that the feature was promised about a year ago.

Facebook is working on a dark mode for its mobile app giving you an alternative to the current stark white design.

One of the next apps looking to join the dark side is arguably one of the most popular apps in the world - Facebook. As you can see in the screenshot above, the dark mode definitely isn't ready for public consumption just yet, but it's clear that its development is well underway. "For example, dark text displaying on a dark background, vice versa". The new look is said to be in the works and there's no word as to when this will roll out. Once all the wrinkles has been ironed out, it will be released globally.
