The study couldn't prove cause and effect, but it found that drinking as little as 3 to 4 ounces of sugary drinks each day was tied to an 18% rise in overall risk for cancer. This follows a recent study linking sugary beverage consumption to greater risk of premature death.
However, until now it has been hard to tease out the extent to which sugary fruit juices and fizzy drinks also increase the risk of cancer per se.
Drinking large amounts of fruit juice may raise your risk of cancer, according to a big study which has found a link between the regular consumption of all kinds of sugary drinks and the likelihood of developing the disease.

In a statement, the American Beverage Association said: "It's important for people to know that all beverages - either with sugar or without - are safe to consume as part of a balanced diet".
