The Vermont senator and 2020 presidential hopeful revealed as much in a tweet eulogizing Perot-the boisterous Texas billionaire, philanthropist and twice-failed presidential candidate-who passed away on Tuesday at 89.

Dallas Morning News broke the story by describing how Perot has been battling leukemia since February and almost died earlier in the year from a secondary infection. The IT services company grew to more than 23,000 employees and had annual revenue of $2.8 billion when Dell acquired it in 2009 for $3.9 billion.

He received about 19 percent of the national vote in the 1992 race for the White House, leaving many to believe he undermined the re-election chances of fellow Texan, President George H.W. Bush. That was more than any other third-party candidate ever. While he's often credited with helping deliver the presidency to Clinton after 12 years of Republican rule under Bush and Ronald Reagan, The New York Times reports his candidacy didn't appeal to Republicans alone. Ross created a company, Electronic Data Systems, that understood the next step was to marry hardware and software to transform pencil-and-paper business processes to electronic signals. At his death, the Texas tycoon's total wealth was about $4.1 billion, making him approximately the 170th richest USA citizen. In 1996, when he ran against Bob Dole (R) and Bill Clinton (D), he won 8.4 percent of the vote. He retired as CEO in 2000 and was succeeded by his son, Ross Perot Jr. "He will be missed greatly", Ross Mulford of Petrus Asset Management Company said in a statement.

Perot, a Texas native, is survived by his wife, Margot, as well as five children and 16 grandchildren, according to CNBC. "After a long meeting, Mr. Perot told me that if I could raise $1.5 million, he would give the remaining $500,000".

Perot was born in Texarkana, eastern Texas in 1930, during the Great Depression.

Right along the coast south of Louisiana, water temperatures are now approaching 32ºC - more than ample fuel for a healthy storm. The unnamed system is spinning in the same general area where Hurricane Michael gained strength last October.

Their street, Strait Lane, is known as the city's main drag for trophy properties with numerous palatial abodes described based on their proximity to Perot's comparatively modest manse. He was shut out of presidential debates when organizers said he lacked sufficient support. Likewise in 1988, his Perot Systems came to life. The Dallas News quoted a friend who called Perot "a Boy Scout who knows how to street-fight".

Perot's entrance into the presidential election of 1992 made history.

In later years, Perot pushed the Veterans Affairs Department to study neurological causes of Gulf War syndrome, a mysterious illness reported by many soldiers who served in the 1991 Persian Gulf war. Peake commented at the time that Perot's advocacy embodied "the very spirit of America".

"Ross Perot was a visionary and epitomized entrepreneurship in the tech world".
