Dashcam video and police body camera caught the exchange between Rudolph and DeputyAaron Blais, who had pulled the man over in his black Escalade after noticing its illegally tinted windows.
A seemingly startled Rudolph screams before attempting to flee, as Blais is dragged a further 100 yards down the road. He was busted following an eight-hour manhunt and is now facing charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault, Lemma said.
Blais asks Rudolph if he has a Florida health card that would allow him to smoke the drug, to which he receives a negative reply.
Footage shows Rudolph arguing with the officer before allegedly driving away while Blais was holding on to the window.
Lemma said he was "absolutely convinced that Rudolph was reaching for his gun" during the incident, with witnesses claiming he threw it in some bushes.
After the deputy was dragged at least 20 feet, he then pulled his firearm out and ordered Rudolph to raise his hands and turn the vehicle off, Lemma said.
Deputies say Rudolph quickly lost control of his vehicle and ran away. Rudolph will step before a judge on Monday morning.
"This was a very risky situation", Lemma said.
He was then taken to the hospital and treated for the wound on his leg. He asked Rudolph to turn off the vehicle, but Rudolph would not, authorities said. Sheriff Dennis Lemma said during a news conference that it was a "routine conversation" and "everything seemed to be going just fine".
"I don't know how many rounds were fired into the vehicle, but it was probably not enough", he said. Rudolph, who was identified prior to the dragging incident, was the subject of a search conducted by the SWAT team. "Rudolph temporarily stopped the vehicle, but continued to ignore the commands to show his hands and to put his vehicle in park". "Our deputy could have been killed".
Rudolph sped off from the scene, leaving Blais lying by the side of the road after he lost grip of the vehicle.
According to WFTV, Rudolph Jr. has 15 felony convictions, eight misdemeanor convictions, 32 felony charges, and 22 misdemeanor charges.
