A US service member was killed in Afghanistan on Saturday.

Four members of the Afghan security forces were killed and 20 people wounded, including civilians, the ministry said.

Afghanistan's police and military personnel come under near-daily attacks and have suffered staggering casualties in recent months, most often at the hands of Taliban insurgents, who say the war will continue as long as US and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces are still in Afghanistan.

After almost 18 years, it is America's longest war, in which over 2,400 American service members have died.

Cadre of terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) have shifted to Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan and Kandahar provinces of Afghanistan after Indian Air Force's strike on the Balakot terror camp in Pakistan. Police said the attack targeted Malik Toor, a pro-government militia commander, who was killed in the blast.
