Telstra outage EFTPOS machines and ATMs down across the country Telstra is experiencing an outage affecting EFTPOS and ATMs across Australia

Telstra is now working to fix issues that are affecting EFTPOS services around the country this afternoon.

A Telstra issue is causing problems for Commonwealth Bank and Westpac customers nationwide.

"Most customer services have now been restored, and we're working with our customers on the remaining few", a Telstra spokesman said on Thursday night.

Meantime Comm Bank says its website and app should be working but has confirmed issues with ATMs, EFTPOS and some in-branch services. "There is no need to call us if you are experiencing problems with these services".

The banking institution also revealed to us which of its services are being impacted.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia said some services are back to normal and it thanked customers for their patience.

MAJOR retailers and banks across the country have been hit by a Telstra outage, meaning some payment methods are offline.

"Good news. Many of our services are starting to restore".

Buckingham Palace intruder came 'within metres' of sleeping Queen - 'very worrying'
It was the Queen's long-time aide Paul Whybrew - still employed by the Queen to this day - who came to the rescue. A man reportedly climbed over the front gates of the palace, banging down the doors of the royal residence.

While the outage doesn't appear to be affecting consumer and business mobile services, the impact on machine-to-machine services is likely to have an even more significant impact on Australian consumers.

"We are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority", the bank said in a statement.

The spokesperson also said the cause of the problem is not internal but due to "one of [its] telecommunication providers". The outage then cascaded into a higher number of calls than usual into its call centre.

Caltex and Woolworths also reported issues with their payment systems.

Aussies without cash have been left unable to pay for anything after the outage hit at approximately 3pm AEST.

"We apologise to our customers affected by this".

"Telstra has advised us the network connection is back up and running", Woolworths told AAP, offering an apology to customers for the delay.

A Reuters reporter at one supermarket in Sydney said the problem caused havoc as automated checkouts - which account for most checkouts at many stores - were shut down and staff checked customers' signatures to process card payments.
