It is believed Koscielny asked to be released from his contract a year early to head back to France, but that request was turned down and Arsenal's captain has now made a decision to take this drastic step.

"Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the USA for our pre-season tour", an Arsenal statement read.

The 33-year-old was due to fly out to the US with the rest of the squad on Thursday but the club announced earlier in the day that the defender would not be travelling.

This stance has clearly angered Koscielny, who believes after nine years of service he deserves to leave on his terms.

Arsenal are to start disciplinary proceedings against the Frenchman, who faces a fine of two weeks wages as well as the loss of the armband.

"We are very disappointed by Laurent's actions, which are against our clear instructions".

Wall Street touches new highs after comments by Fed's Powell
The Fed minutes of the June policy meeting released on Wednesday as well echoed Powell's comments to Congress. Powell said last Friday's relatively strong U.S. jobs report had no impact on the Fed's economic outlook.

Arsenal says it was working to resolve the matter.

Sky Sports News understands Koscielny wants to return to France and has asked Arsenal to release him from his contract, which has one year remaining.

The Gunners battle the Colorado Rapids at 9 p.m. Monday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.

Koscielny's future is now in doubt ahead of the season opener at Newcastle on August 11 and the situation may leave Arsenal needing to recruit another centre-back in the transfer window.

Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli has been the only new arrival so far.

The Gunners are closing in on a deal to sign French youngster William Saliba from Saint-Etienne for $34 million then loan him back to the Ligue 1 club.
