Trump Dossier Author Agrees to Testify About Alleged Connections to Federal Bureau of Investigation

Former UK spy and author of dossier that sparked Russiagate to give US testimony – report Report: U.S. Officials to Grill Christopher Steele on FBI Ties in London

Christopher Steele, 54, has agreed to meet investigators in London within weeks, according to a source close to him.

(Washington Examiner) Trump dossier author Christopher Steele is seemingly deeply anxious about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuse investigation being carried out by the Justice Department inspector general.

Christopher Steele, the retired United Kingdom spy who now runs his own private intelligence firm, seems to have changed his mind since last week, when reports suggested he would not agree to speak to U.S. officials.

But there are several ongoing investigations in the US related to the origins of the Russian Federation probe, and federal investigators are probing how the Democrat-funded anti-Trump dossier written by Steele was used to secure surveillance warrants for former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in 2016. Steele agreed to speak to the inspector general after learning that the soon-to-be-released OIG report is critical of him and his credibility. They tapped Justice Department official Bruce Ohr to serve as a back channel of sorts between Steele and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Steele's intelligence firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, did not respond to a request for comment. Whether to testify or not would be Steele's decision since he is no longer in government service, the source added.

Those allegations have been all but debunked by the special counsel's investigation, which was unable to find a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Kremlin to influence the election.

The FBI severed ties with Steele on October 31st, 2016, for disclosing his relationship with the bureau to the media.

The Times also reports that Steele's dossier "led to an FBI inquiry" of the Trump campaign which later evolved into the special counsel investigation. The dossier claimed Trump could be blackmailed by Moscow.

According to the FBI's current narrative, as laid out in the final report by Mueller, the bureau opened the investigation into the Trump campaign after learning that Papadopoulos told Australian diplomat Alexander Downer that Russian Federation had "dirt" on Clinton in the form of thousands of emails.
