The brother of a "Shark Tank" star was found dead in a hotel room in the Dominican Republic, and the death comes after the deaths of six other US tourists visiting the DR have been brought to light.

Johnathan "was retired but owned a successful roofing company in New Jersey", Corcoran told the outlet.

Corcoran told TMZ her brother, John, was in the Dominican Republic with a friend in April on his yearly vacation when he died of a heart attack. The television personality added that, of her nine siblings, John was her "favorite brother" and had a larger-than-life personality.

John is the seventh American tourist to be found dead in the Dominican Republic since last June and the family members of the others have suggested that the deaths are connected and are suspicious, according to the New York Times.

The business mogul is shining the light on his death after it was revealed he is one of a string of tourist mystery deaths that have occurred in the country this year. "Barbara would like to respect the privacy of his children and is not releasing any other information at this time".

"We can confirm the death of a U.S. citizen in April 2019 in the Dominican Republic", the U.S. State Department told Fox News. It is not yet known which hotel he was staying in.

While John's death alone might not be alarming, the case is curiously similar to other mysterious tourist deaths in the country's hotels over the past year. Regardless, both Dominican authorities and the FBI are investigating the deaths.

"My brother had an existing heart condition, and we believe he died of natural causes, but you're still never ready for the death of a loved one".

Fox News reported the Dominican Republic's Tourism Ministry is trying to reassure American tourists the incidents are being taken seriously.

A recently engaged couple from Maryland was found dead in their room in late May, and an autopsy reportedly found they also had respiratory failure and pulmonary edema. Her husband said that his wife, 41, collapsed after having the minibar drink at the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville.

Four were found dead at Bahia Principe resorts and two at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, TMZ reported. "But it's just a coincidence that it happened in the Dominican Republic like those other deaths".
