The mother of one of the victims says at least four suspects are to be tried for murder over the 2014 downing of Malaysia Flight 17.

The Dutch-led group of worldwide investigators who formed to examine the 2014 MH17 downing have named four suspects.

Australia and the Netherlands said a year ago that they hold Russian Federation legally responsible for the shootdown and have said they will seek reparations. A total of 298 people from 17 countries died on board.

JIT is the Dutch-led authority, comprised from representatives from five countries, which is investigating the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash over eastern Ukraine in 2014.

An global team of investigators building a criminal case against those responsible in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 is set to announce progress in the probe on Wednesday June 19, 2019, almost five years after the plane was blown out of the sky above conflict-torn eastern Ukraine.

Charges against the four will be brought after their names are made public by the Joint Investigation Team, Zerkal said. "That means the inquiry is advancing", Piet Ploeg, president of a Dutch victims' association who lost three family members on MH17, was quoted as saying by broadcaster NOS on Friday. Exactly who gave the order to shoot however, is still unclear said Bellingcat.

The Russian government denies having lent any support to pro-Russia rebels fighting Ukrainian government troops and also denies any involvement in shooting down MH17.

The Netherlands has said Russian Federation has not cooperated with the investigation and Moscow is not expected to surrender suspects.

They said their next step would be to identify individual culprits and to attempt to put them on trial.

Chief prosecutor Fred Westerbeke said all four suspects were responsible for bringing the BUK-M1 missile launcher into a field in Pervomaisky, eastern Ukraine, where the missile was sacked from.
