New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway cursed at a reporter, and pitcher Jason Vargas had to be restrained from charging him during a confrontation in the team's clubhouse after a loss Sunday. According to several reporters Callaway walked away and then returned, cursing at Healey again and telling Mets staff to "get this motherfucker out of here".

New York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas also found himself in the middle of a incident with a Newsday reporter.

"Asked about concerns about dealing with the ups and downs of the job if he responded the way he did Sunday, Callaway said "(Former manager) Billy Martin punched a reporter once", adding "It's just part of this game, .

"Frustrations were high and he understands from a leadership position that we can't lose control and he knows that's not something that should've happened", Van Wagnenen said. Reporters regularly tell coaches and players "see you tomorrow" or "see you later" or "safe travels" when exiting the clubhouse.

Healey reportedly had only said, "See you (Monday), Mickey" after Callaway had dressed in street clothes and was leaving Wrigley Field.

The Mets were forced to clean up the mess on Monday before the start of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

"He stressed the fact that I should feel comfortable being able to do my job at the ballpark and that moving forward, there's no reason for me to feel uncomfortable", Healey told the paper.

"The Mets sincerely regret the incident that took place with one of our beat writers following today's game in the clubhouse", the statement read. "We do not condone this type of behavior from any employee".

Tell me: if you're the GM or owner of a team and your manager does that, do you keep him? He said Wilpon called later in the evening to apologize. "I appreciated that sentiment from him, absolutely".

NY will begin a four-game series Monday against the Phillies in Philadelphia. For things like that to happen, it's always a misunderstanding. "An unfortunate distraction. The team addressed the situation, the organization made a statement".

"Get the (expletive) out of here", Callaway said.

NY is 37-41 and nine games back of first-place Atlanta in the NL East.
