The Minnesota Vikings and tight end Kyle Rudolph have been working on a potential contract extension all offseason long, but it didn't look like things were going to get done.

Given the Vikings' sudden glut of young tight ends and their tenuous cap situation, some surmised a Rudolph trade could open up both opportunities and money flexibility.

On Monday night, the Vikings agreed to a contract extension with Rudolph that should keep him in Minnesota for the foreseeable future.

It certainly made sense to tie Kyle Rudolph to the New England Patriots. According to Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune, Rudolph has a fully guaranteed salary this year, and his 2020 salary is only guaranteed in the case of injury. However, he was interested in offering the Vikings any salary cap relief.

Cuba Gooding Jr charged with forcible touching after incident in NY
He said he was surprised police and prosecutors were moving forward with the case. His signature line, "Show me the money", became a popular catchphrase.

Rudolph also posted a message on social media, expressing his excitement to finish his career in Minnesota.

"I have unfinished business and that business is bringing the first championship here to this organization and the state of Minnesota".

"Just under a decade ago, I received a phone call that would change my life, " Rudolph wrote, referring to being drafted in the second round by the Vikings in 2011. He's played in all 16 games for the past four seasons.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Rudolph finished last season with 64 receptions for 634 yards and four touchdowns. That's part of the reason that they were tied to Rudolph in trade rumors, but nothing substantial ever came of that. While he has never truly featured among the elite of elite tight ends, Rudolph has undeniably been a solid target for the duration of his eight-year Minnesota career.
