“Somebody Is Going to Die”: Lawyer Describes Chaos, Illness & Danger at Migrant Child Jail in Texas 'Children looking after children' at U.S. migrant detention centre: attorney

Gialluca and a slew of other lawyers have been meeting with children and young mothers at facilities across the state this month as pro bono attorneys.

The entrance of a Border Patrol station in Clint, Texas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has told a Texas congresswoman Monday, June 24, that the agency is quickly removing children from the patrol station following reports that children locked inside were in a perilous situation.

"How is it possible that you both were unaware of the inhumane conditions for children, especially tender-age children at the Clint Station?"

Although it was unclear where the children held at Clint were moved, Escobar said some were sent to another facility on the north side of El Paso called Border Patrol Station 1. "Many of them are not being allowed to brush their teeth except for maybe once every ten days".

Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, said on Twitter that only 30 of 255 children remain at the Clint border patrol station in El Paso County following her office sending a letter on Friday to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner John Sanders and U.S. "Lawyers warn that kids are taking care of kids, and there's inadequate food, water and sanitation for the 250 infants, children and teens at the Border Patrol station".

To the west, US Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio area recovered the bodies of two men on ranchland near Carrizo Springs after anonymous calls on 19-20 June alerted them to lost migrants, the agency said in a statement.

The children also did not have access to soap and toothbrushes, and most had not showered since they crossed the southern border.

But according to a GoFundMe page, Binford started that has raised $83,000 to hire more people to "find and document separated children".

"Their eyes. I'm haunted by their eyes", Gialluca said. Lawyers who visited the facility described a scene of chaos and sickness, with children unable to shower or change into clean clothes for weeks on end.

Binford was so troubled by what she saw inside the facility that she went to the press.

Elora Mukherjee, another lawyer who visited the facility, told CBS News: "They were wearing the same dirty clothing they crossed the border with".

Customs and Border Protection has referred AP's questions to the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which said Monday that 249 children who had been held at Clint would be moved to the agency's network of shelters and other facilities by Tuesday.

"Clearly, at this facility and I suspect at many other facilities as well, things are going horribly, tragically wrong here in America", she said.

The children have been taken to a tent detention center where they will be held until they can be placed with the Department of Health and Human Services, officials with the Department of Homeland Security said, according to NBC News.

Conditions at Customs and Border Protection facilities along the border have been an issue of increasing concern as officials warn that the recent large influx of migrant families has driven numerous facilities well past their capacities.
