Defying expectations, Boeing wins interest for 737 Max at Paris Air Show

Boeing apologises for 737 MAX crashes as Paris Air Show opens Boeing Considers Renaming 737 MAX As Zero Sales Continue

Boeing won a major vote of confidence at the Paris Airshow on Tuesday as British Airways owner IAG signed a letter of intent to buy 200 of its 737 Max aircraft that have been grounded since March after two deadly crashes.

It is anticipated that the aircraft would be used by a number of the group's airlines including Vueling, Level and British Airways at London Gatwick airport.

Boeing Airplanes tweeted: "Thank you International Airlines Group for your trust and confidence in the 737 MAX and the people of Boeing".

While 737 Max aircraft are still parked on tarmacs, Walsh is sure that Boeing will have the planes back in the sky before long.

But McAllister and other executives faced a barrage of questions over Boeing's handling of the 737 MAX disasters, thought to be caused by a faulty MCAS anti-stall system.

The airline group said it was confident that the Boeing planes would return to service in the coming months.

With a busy day at the Paris Air Show securing orders for 30 Boeing 787s and now possible orders for 200 Boeing 737 MAXs, we could perhaps begin to see a resurgence of orders for the grounded jet as wounds begin to heal and airlines once again draw upon the operational efficiencies of the MAX.

A commercial airplane can take several years for Boeing to assemble and deliver after it receives an order, so airlines typically order planes many years in advance of when they think they'll actually need them.

Its shares rose more than 3 per cent.

Cebu's order included 10 of Airbus's new long-range A321XLR passenger aircraft, which was launched at the show on Monday, as well as 16 wide-body A330neos and five single-aisle A320neos.

All 737 Max planes were grounded in March after an Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed, killing 157 people.

The US-based Air Lease Corporation has signed a letter of intent to buy 27 of the planes, with deliveries to start in 2023.

"We look forward to building on our long-standing partnership with IAG for many years to come".

In the IAG statement, Walsh said the 737s would make a great addition to the airline group's shorthaul fleet.

At the same time, Boeing asserted that that name change is not a top priority.

The diversification Boeing mentioned represented a smart move for any airline or group of the size of IAG, and indeed this would seem to be a sensible step.

IAG is now nearly exclusively operating a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.

However, IAG will have negotiated a substantial discount from the list price.

For now, executives insist they have no immediate plans to drop the MAX name for something less associated with tragedy, such as the product numbers that marked earlier generations of the company's best-selling aircraft.

According to the aviation consulting firm IBA.iQ, on day one of the show orders and options for Airbus planes reached 123.

Macron then toured the vast exhibition halls at Le Bourget, where dozens of companies are touting their efforts to make flying cleaner amid criticism of airlines' carbon emissions.
