Sudan's ousted president Omar Al Bashir has met with Public Prosecutors in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, to hear charges that will be brought against him in a trial scheduled to begin next week.
Bashir was ousted by the military in an April 11 coup following months of protests against rising prices and a weak economy that ultimately morphed into calls for his 30 year rule to end.
Prosecutor Alaeddin Dafallah told reporters that the former strongman was facing charges of "possessing foreign currency, corruption and receiving gifts illegally".
Those groups insist they want the Transitional Military Council to make way for a civilian government.
A spokesman with the military's media office confirmed that Sunday was the first time the former president had been taken out from his prison in Khartoum.
A top Sudanese general said yesterday that he would execute anyone found responsible for killing protesters after June 3, when security forces moved to break up a sit-in outside the headquarters of the armed forces in Khartoum.
The top USA diplomat to Africa said there must be an "independent and credible" investigation into the Sudanese military's violent dispersal of a protest camp in the capital earlier this month, and the ruling military council said it would announce the findings of its own investigation on Saturday.
