Uber Launches 'Quiet Mode' for Customers Who Don't Want a Talkative Driver

Uber has released a new feature, dubbed Rider Preferences that allows customers to ask for minimal conversation during a ride.

The new options have appeared within the Uber app for riders who order a vehicle on the platform's luxury option, Uber Black and Black SUV.

Uber Black drivers are now strictly directed to wait for 15 minutes after arriving before canceling on you, which is standard with private auto services as well. These changes will be applied across all Uber Black and Uber Black SUV rides in the USA starting today. To this end, Quite Mode should give such groups an option to select rides that adhere to their preferences. The preferences can not be selected as a driver is on the way to pick them up or if a ride is in progress. But then the overly chatty Uber driver won't shut up. Alternatively, they can select "happy to chat" or "no preference".

Now, users can take a nap, answer emails or listen to music without interruption from their driver. Perhaps the best addition is the new Quiet Mode option, which is exactly what it sounds like: a way to let the driver know you're not interested in chatting. Then there is also the temperature control option that lets the driver know if the vehicle needs to be warm or cold. Ghajar also revealed that the reaction of Uber Black drivers was positive because the will to please their riders is always present but they don't exactly know what the rider prefers.

Users of the company's premium services can now also request extra time before getting into the vehicle without paying late pickup fees, as well as being able to talk directly to customer service if something goes wrong during the ride.

Other explanations include positive sentiment around recent crypto conventions in NY and a potential safe haven from the U.S. Digital currency experts have weighed in on reasons for the surge.

Sadly, we can't exactly just mute randoms when they approach you but you will be able to do that with your Uber driver.

The update also means Uber will prioritize more professional drivers and nicer cars for Uber Black users. "With these new features and more to come, we're excited to ensure that our riders can arrive relaxed and refreshed, wherever they're headed".

Given that premium rides can earn Uber 2-3 times more revenue, and after a tough first day on the stock market, the company sees the opportunity to increase its margin and rebuild shareholders' trust after a weak IPO.

Quiet Mode is not the only new feature in the app. You can disable the feature if you feel like having a casual conversation with your driver.
