Manchester City are concerned their "good faith" in UEFA's investigation into their financial affairs could be "misplaced" following reports the Premier League champions are facing a one-year ban from the Champions League.

Thankfully, the Reds have a chance to finish on a high, as they'll face Tottenham on June 1 in Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.

According to the New York Times, investigators for the European governing body have made a decision to push for at least a one-season ban from the competition, after a meeting at its Swiss headquarters two weeks ago. "The accusation of financial irregularities are entirely false, and comprehensive proof of this fact has been provided to the CFCB IC".

It is believed the footage was taken on the journey back from Brighton, where City won 4-1 to lift the Premier League trophy for the second consecutive season.

Omnisport understands UEFA is unlikely to offer a public comment on either the reports or City's statement while the investigation is ongoing.

The 20-year old faced the English side in the group stage of the Champions League and is apparently a Pep Guardiola desire.

If he does sanction a year-long Champions League ban, given that Man City would nearly certainly appeal, it is unclear it would be able to be enforced in time for next season's competition. "This can lead to the heaviest punishment: exclusion from the UEFA competitions".

The person also said the Premier League champions have not been cooperating with the investigation when they have been asked about information in leaked documents.

With the Champions League the one trophy which has alluded Manchester City since their takeover by billionaire Abu Dhabi investors, fans will be desperate that their club hasn't broken any rules.
