Last year's reports revealed that Dyson plans to roll out a range of EVs, including a high-end model as well as two less expensive vehicles designed for the mass market.

The report suggests that the vehicle will feature a "long wheelbase" and large wheels to improve its efficiency and a lower centre of gravity to improve handling.

Despite the high ground clearance, the vehicle's overall height would be lower than most SUVs and a larger, thinner battery pack than rivals would help give more space inside. The first Dyson EV will be a large vehicle, one which Autocar says will bear a footprint similar in size to that of the Range Rover, though with different proportions.

A company spokesman revealed that Dyson's first auto is expected to hit the roads by 2021.

What was revealed by Sir James is that advances in aerodynamics, efficiency and vehicle architecture of the auto have been made.

It's been nearly two years since vacuum cleaner giant Dyson announced plans to build electric cars, something founder and chief engineer James Dyson has been hinting at since 2008. Last year, the company said it would build a facility in Singapore to develop the auto it hopes to introduce by 2021.

New details have emerged about Dyson's first-ever electric vehicle that will take on Tesla and other automakers that are now dabbling in electrified power trains.

In a letter to staff, the entrepreneur said the vehicle the will contain "fundamentally new technologies and make some inventive leaps".

However, Dyson maintains that the auto is a British project, with the design, engineering and testing of prototypes being carried out in its Wiltshire base, the ex-military Hullavington airfield where hangars have been converted to house the project.

The company said that it does not always follow the patents it files, and that people would have to wait to see more details.
