The figures involved are astronomical, with Mackenzie Bezos instantly becoming the third richest woman in the world.

However, MacKenzie transferred all of her voting rights to her former husband, and she has also given up her interests in the Washington Post newspaper and Jeff' space travel firm, Blue Origin.

She said: "Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and with help from everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to next phase as co-parents and friends".

Tweets by both Jeff and MacKenzie, which you can read below, portray how amicable and friendly this divorce is.

MacKenzie left the Amazon founder with 75 per cent of their shared stock in the company, as well as voting control over the almost 20 million shares she is keeping for herself.

The richest woman in the world is L'Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, with a net worth of $53.7 billion, according to Bloomberg.

"McKenzie most of all, I'm grateful for her support and for her kindness in this process".

"I'm so grateful to all my friends and family for reaching out with encouragement and love".

She also said she will be giving Jeff Bezos all of her interests in The Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75 percent of their Amazon stock, as well as voting control of her shares to "support his continued contributions with the teams of these incredible companies". And since the two presented themselves "as real partners in this marriage and the building of their assets", Pollock said, some people might be surprised that MacKenzie didn't get more from the settlement.

'She is resourceful and brilliant and loving and as our futures unroll, I know I'll always be learning from her'.

The pair chose to end their 25 year marriage in January of this year. They had been separated for a while, but made things official just before stories surfaced of the billionaire's relationship with ex-news anchor, Lauren Sanchez. The couple, who were married for 13 years, reportedly asked for joint custody of the two children they have together.

Gavin de Becker said that he had concluded his investigation into the publication of leaked text messages between Bezos and former TV host Lauren Sanchez in the National Enquirer magazine in January.
