Tiger Roll races into history after Grand National triumph

Tiger Roll wins back to back Grand Nationals Grand National 2019: Aintree and BHA to review after three horses die during meeting

Tiger Roll became the first horse since Red Rum in the 1970s to win the race in successive years.

McCain feels what has made Red Rum and Tiger Roll so special is that they came through an unconventional route, being bred to be Flat horses and precocious types and certainly not ones for the long haul.

The runners prolific win was witnessed by a 70,000 person crowd at Aintree racecourse, and an estimated 500 million world-wide audience.

The blinkers had been taken off and walking beside Tiger Roll you could marvel at the slightness of his nearly pony-sized stature and the pointed elegance of his soaking bay face. "Tiger Roll is a bit of a rock star". The stamina and fitness of the horse proved he was worthy of the title, travelling easily between jumps.

Trainer Elliott could hardly contain his joy in the winners' enclosure, jumping around and hugging the horse that was bought for £10,000 (US$13,038) to "sell on" because he was thought to be on the slow side. It was also a third win, within the last four years, for the runner's owners Gigginstown House Stud, headed by Micheal O'Leary and Eddie O'Leary and.

"It's unbelievable in some ways, everyone is looking for a certain type of racehorse to be a Grand National horse and they broke the mould". Their first victory was at the 2016 Grand National with Rule The World. Last year, one horse, Lilbitluso, died during the Aintree festival. I just don't understand him.

Micheal O'Leary shared ownership glory with his brother Eddie, accrediting the success of their string of horses to him.

On Saturday one horse was sadly lost.

Tiger Roll's jockey, Davy Russell, will also be adding the win to his wealth of titles.

Aintree and the British Horseracing Authority will again conduct a review after three horses died during the three-day Grand National meeting.

"What a horse, what a horse", Elliott said.

"At The Chair she came out of my hands and I almost came out over her head - luckily my head hit her head and that stopped me coming off!"

I've always said Grand National winners going up 7lb, 8lb, 9lb still does not sit right with me in some ways, but that's the way it is and it's just become the best staying handicap chase there is and that's what it is.
