Sarah Sanders says there's no culture of lying at the White House

Sanders defends herself over Mueller report revelation Sarah Sanders admitted her James Comey claim was a lie: Russia probe report
Patty Aguilar | 21 April, 2019, 03:14

In 2017, Sanders said the FBI's rank and file lost confidence in former FBI Director James Comey.

In an interview with Mueller's office, she called the first statement a "slip of the tongue".

Trump also leveled a clear attack on his former loyal White House Counsel, Don McGahn, who according to the "crazy" report saved his presidency by refusing to take actions Trump directed.

"She's calling us fake", Ryan said.

According to Mueller's report, President Trump "reacted negatively to the special counsel's appointment" and "told advisors that it was the end of his presidency". That's what you talked to the special counsel about when you were facing criminal penalties if you didn't tell the truth but now you're trying to walk away from it. He said statements in the report made by some were "fabricated & totally untrue".

This is a developing story.

The New York Democrat told ABC's "Good Morning America" Friday that he is preparing a subpoena not only for Mueller's complete report, but also for the underlying documents, including grand jury evidence.

The long-awaited report - the product of a two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 USA election and the Trump campaign - exposed a culture of lying at the White House.

"The President told Comey at their January 27 dinner that 'the people of the Federal Bureau of Investigation really like (him),' no evidence suggests that the President heard otherwise before deciding to terminate Comey, and Sanders acknowledged to investigators that her comments were not founded on anything", the report said.

Sanders is notoriously combative with the press corps, often blatantly lying or just straight up refusing to answer reporters' questions.

"You never know. The president doesn't want the take the fall, so he may make her take the fall". She has been caught red-handed lying to the press and the American people.

Sanders also pushed back Friday against allegations that the special counsel's Russian Federation report exposed a culture of lying at the White House. Doing so from behind the White House podium is indefensible.

The drama started when Ryan used the phrase "lopping the heads off" while discussing her hope that the press secretary is removed from her post for making false statements to reporters.

Mueller writes that Trump's attempts to seize control of the investigation, and directions to others on how to influence it, "were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests".

On the day of Mr Mueller's appointment in May 2017, for example, White House aides said Mr Trump reacted calmly to the news.
