U.S. President Donald Trump slammed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Monday as "anti-Semitic" and "anti-Israel" amid Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) coming to her defense in response to the president tweeting a video, criticizing Omar for saying that the 9/11 attacks as "some people did something".

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called Sunday for President Trump to take down a video he tweeted shaming Rep. Ilhan Omar over her controversial remarks about the september 11, 2001, terror attacks, saying the tweet has put the freshman congresswoman's life in danger. "And frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties".

Congressmember Omar's comments were originally taken out of context and circulated by right-wing media, from The Daily Caller to Fox News.

"She is out of control, except for her control of Nancy!" he said of Ms Omar. "It has to stop".

Whereas Trump's attacks on Omar are merely an attempt to funnel fuel to his base of right-wing conservative voters as he gears up for elections in 2020, the manner in which Omar has been treated by her own party seems to invoke a larger and deep seated story of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism that has been an integral feature of America - as we know it - for decades. She continues to make anti-Semitic comments over and over again, and Democrats refuse to call her out for it.

"President Trump must take down his disrespectful and unsafe video", Mrs. Pelosi said in a statement Sunday.

In a statement released Sunday night, Omar said in the days since Trump tweeted about the speech she gave last month, she has experienced an increase in death threats.

Democrats also argue that Trump's tweet, the New York Post's cover and similar messages can inspire real-world violence, citing a man who was charged earlier this month with threatening Omar by promising to "put a bullet in her ... skull".

Cooper started off by talking about Trump tweeting out a video targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar. "President Trump must take down his disrespectful and risky video".

The president was unapologetic about his attacks on Monday as he condemned Nancy Pelosi for defending Omar and accused the congresswoman of anti-Semitic speech against Israel. "I thank Capitol Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the House Sergeant at Arms, and the Speaker of the House for their attention to these threats". The video interspersed her words from a speech with images from 9/11. "If she continues to do it, the president will continue to call her out, call her out by name, and he's not going to be ashamed, nor should he be".

Ilhan Omar, a Democratic member of U.S. Congress, is victim of "fabricated controversies" but it has galvanized support for her, believes an American activist and a friend of Omar. "We are ALL Americans!"

Omar, by contrast, had blasted Trump's top immigration adviser, Stephen Miller, as a "white nationalist".
