Freund called 911 to report his son missing on Thursday, claiming he returned home from a doctor's appointment that morning and the boy was nowhere to be found.

Andrew Freund Sr. and JoAnn Cunningham were charged Wednesday after Andrew "AJ" Freund was found dead about seven miles away near Woodstock, according to Crystal Lake Police.

Authorities say they've located the body of a boy who went missing last week in Illionis.

JoAnn Cunningham, 36, is now facing murder charges as well for the death of AJ Freund, but back in 2012 her name was JoAnn Summerkamp and her marriage was approaching its end. The cause of the death is unknown pending an autopsy.

"To AJ's family: It is my hope that you may have some solace in knowing that AJ is no longer suffering and his killers have been brought to justice", Black said. On Saturday afternoon, Andrew Freund, the boy's father, did speak with police detectives. It is not clear whether Freund Sr. has retained legal counsel.

The last contact between DCFS and the family was in December 2018, after Cunningham called the cops to report that AJ's father stole her cellphone and medication. "Woke up this morning and he wasn't. he wasn't".

Gov. J.B. Pritzker in March ordered an independent review of DCFS after the deaths of a 2-year-old girl in Decatur and a 2-year-old boy in Chicago.

"We've checked closets, the basement, the garage, everywhere", Freund told the dispatcher, adding that he had scoured the park, a nearby school and a "local gas station down here where we sometimes take him to buy treats".

He said he searched all around the house and canvassed the neighborhood but couldn't find him. Other agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, aided in the search.

On Monday, police said they were focusing their investigative efforts on the boy's home.

The body of a missing 5-year-old IL boy has been found, according to Fox 32 and other media reports.

In an update on April 22, the department said that there was still no indication that an abduction had taken place.

Crystal Lake Police have asked neighbors for surveillance video in the hunt for clues about the boy's disappearance.

The department released more than 60 pages of police reports written by officers who responded to various calls about the house, which is about 72km northwest of Chicago.

The officer during the visit also reported a suspicious bruise on one of the children, but a child welfare worker was unable to make a determination of abuse, the report said.

"This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation", Crystal Lake Police said in a statement.

Information provided by the parents led investigators to the site where A.J.'s body was found. The allegations were determined to be unfounded in both instances, he said. A younger brother was removed from the home last week. Later, however, her attorneys acknowledged they had urged her to stop communication with police when it appeared to them she had become a suspect. Ms. Cunningham is anxious sick.
