Microsoft has the intention to bring more control over OS updates from the upcoming Windows 10 May 2019 Update towards you guys.

The program has been created to offer pre-releases of Windows 10 using three levels of readiness (Fast, Slow, and Release Preview), which developers and enthusiasts can use to test and offer feedback for upcoming features.

After you've rebooted your PC, check to see that you're on "Release Preview", as shown here, to receive the new build. All that is required is to join the Insider program and the Release Preview ring on a machine running Windows 10 to do so.

Microsoft offered the Windows 10 version 1903 to Release Preview ring testers on Monday in the form of build 18362.30, which it released to Windows Insiders in the Fast and Slow rings last Thursday.

The April 2018 Update, aka Windows 10 version 1803 is getting a new patch Tuesday with the build 16299.1087. However, the company has thus far said nothing about what this release will contain, leading to some speculation that it will have its features announced at Microsoft's Build developer conference next month.

The release to the Release Preview ring marks the last step in the development process.

If you are now not an Insider and would like to test the May 2019 Update before it is publicly released, you first need to join the program.

Security updates to Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Graphics, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Server, Windows Datacenter Networking, Windows Server, Windows MSXML, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine. To join the Windows Insider Program, click on the Get started button.

For a day or two, members of the Windows Insider Program are in that special limbo period that lets them opt out of the preview program without having to reinstall their operating system from scratch.

Search for Windows Insider, and when the "Windows Insider Program Settings" result appears, click on it. If you just want the stable May 2019 Update referenced above, select Just fixes, apps and drivers.

If you're in the Fast ring, recommended to switch to the Release Preview ring as in the coming weeks, Microsoft will start releasing early previews for the 20H1 update coming in 2020.

Also, if you're already testing previews in the Windows Insider Program through Slow ring, it's not necessary to change your settings, as the code will be eventually the same in all the available rings.
