Injuries 'could play on Harry Kane's mind'

Kane absence makes Tottenham tougher to beat – Siewert Harry Kane injury: Spurs deliver new update on ankle problem
Shannon Reynolds | 13 April, 2019, 11:58

After Tuesday's match, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "It's a worry for us".

In a statement on their official website, they explained: "Following assessment over the past two days, we can confirm that Harry Kane has sustained a significant lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Champions League quarter-final, first leg win against Manchester City".

"If we arrive in the final of the Champions League maybe he would have the possibility to play, but we'll see".

The 25-year-old could also miss England's bid to win the Nations League.

Kane, who has already injured the same ankle this season, was pictured leaving Tottenham's new stadium on crutches after picking up the injury when going to tackle Fabian Delph early in the second half.

Will Spurs reach the semi-finals of the Champions League this season?

The club have not put a timeframe on Kane's recovery but Pochettino said it would be hard for him to recover in time to play any part in the rest of the Premier League campaign which finishes in just four weeks' time on May 12. The return game is scheduled for April 17 in Manchester.

He was ruled out for nearly two months in January, missing seven games, when he damaged ligaments in the same ankle during their 1-0 Premier League home defeat by Manchester United.

South Korean star Son Heung-min is expected to take on the mantle left by Kane for Spurs' remaining games.

Kane had previously missed six weeks of action after injuring the same ankle during a January 15 Premier League match against Manchester United.

England's Harry Kane celebrates scoring a goal with Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley and Jordan Henderson.

The concern about Kane isn't just in the short-term, but in the long-term, as the Spurs boss admitted that the forward's injury history could be an issue.
