The race has been won but many thousands are still making their way to the finish line at this year's London Marathon.

Kipchoge - who clocked a world record at the Berlin Marathon past year - powered home in a time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, 37 seconds, setting a London course record and adding to his 2015, 2016 and 2018 victories.

It crowned a glorious double for the East African country after Brigid Kosgei had become the youngest woman to take the women's title, beating compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot in 2:18:20. Congratulations to Eliud and the better man won today.

"I didn't really know how far ahead I was, I looked back a couple of times then realised everything was okay".

Farah's preparations were marked by a dispute with fellow distance-running great Haile Gebrselassie, but the multi-Olympic, world and European champion over 10,000 and 5,000 metres said the dispute was not a distraction during his third London Marathon.

"I don't regret anything I said and I respect the race". Three-times London Marathon victor Mary Keitany was down in fifth.

Mule Wasihun (Ethiopia) finished third in 2:03:16.

Cheruiyot was initially able to stay with her when Kosgei made a break at the 20-mile mark but could not maintain the pace and drifted away some four miles from the finish.

"They are two absolute legends who I admire so much", said Purdue, who knocked nearly four minutes off her personal best.

Like Kosgei, Manuela Schär of Switzerland was a similarly emphatic victor as she took the women's wheelchair race in 1:44:09.
