Fisher-Price recalls Rock 'n Play Sleeper after 32 deaths

All models of Fisher-Price Rock N' Play sleepers recalled after infant deaths After reports of infant deaths, nearly 5 million Fisher-Price Rock ’n Play Sleepers are recalled

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says that anyone who bought any models of the Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play sleeper should stop using it right away and contact Fisher-Price for a refund.

But AAP's chair of the Task Force on Sudden Infant Death Syndrom (SIDS) said the product fails to meet the group's recommendations for a "safe sleep environment".

The Fisher-Price Rock 'N Play sold at all major retailers for approximately $40 to $149.

Last week the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Fisher-Price said parents should not put infants older than 3 months in the Rock 'n Play Sleeper because they can roll over in the device if unrestrained.

Fisher-Price has recalled all models of its Rock 'n Play Sleeper over reports of infant deaths. Contact Fisher-Price online at www.service.mattel.com and click on "Recalls & Safety Alerts" or at 866-812-6518 from 9 a.m.to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for more information.

NEW YORK (AP) - Fisher-Price recalled almost 5 million infant sleepers on Friday after more than 30 babies died in them over a 10-year period. In recent days, questions have been raised about the Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play Sleeper. "All other inclined sleepers should be investigated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission".

Earlier this week, the American Academy of Pediatrics joined growing calls for a recall, citing a new report from Consumer Reports that found 32 infant deaths linked to the device. "There is convincing evidence that the Rock n" Play inclined sleeper puts infants' lives at risk, and CPSC must step up and take immediate action to remove it from stores and prevent further tragedies'.

"Infants should always sleep on their back, on a separate, flat and firm sleep surface without any bumpers or bedding", Rachel Moon, MD, FAAP, said in a statement.
