Ms Coburn, 69, had stopped at the medical centre's emergency room entrance and got out of the auto to help her sick daughter into a wheelchair, leaving the boy Chance, eight, and his sister Skyler, 10, in the vehicle, reported WCPO Cincinnati, an affiliate of American television network ABC.
Seconds after the two women left the auto, a man police allege to be 24-year-old heroin addict Dalvir Singh, entered the driver's side of Ms Coburn's vehicle and took off with the children still in the back. As Coburn helped the woman into the emergency room, 24-year-old Dalvir Singh hopped into the driver's seat and took off with the auto - with the kids still in the back, according to police.
But a safety feature prevented the vehicle from locking since the keys were still inside - and just like that a man climbed into the driver's seat and began to pull away, WCPO said.
Police accused 24-year-old Dalvir Singh of entering and attempting to drive away with the children inside.
"The little boy opened the door to escape and the little girl started to jump out also, but the man grabbed the hoodie of the little girl, not allowing her to leave", said the police.
Coburn didn't see the pair at first and continued to hang on to the driver's door.
She thought she had locked her auto, but a safety feature had prevented her from locking the doors with the keys still inside.
Most terrifying of all was that Coburn's 10-year-old great-granddaughter, Skyler, and 8-year-old great-grandson, Chance, were still in the auto. As he drove away, the quick-thinking boy opened the door and pulled his sister to safety.
In CCTV vision, a quick-thinking Chance can be seen throwing his auto door open and jumping out of the moving vehicle with his sister.

Two officers observed the stolen vehicle fleeing the scene and arrested Singh, who police said is a heroin addict.
Chief Muterspaw stated, "This little guy is a hero. That is incredible at his age".
Coburn was dragged by the vehicle for a short distance before she was forced to let go.
Coburn told WCPO that every time she thinks about the incident, she wants to cry.
Coburn, 69, told the station it was the "most morbid feeling in the world".
Local police have confirmed Chance will be recognised for his courageous efforts during the alleged incident.
"The second time he slammed it shut, I saw he had a hold of Skyler", she said.
"That auto didn't bother me at all"' Coburn said. No one needs to feel that fear.
