Attorney General William Barr Testifies on Trump’s DOJ Budget Request

GOP Rep. Collins: Move to Impeach or Bring in Mueller US Attorney General Expected to Face Mueller Report Questions

"I think spying on a political campaign is a big deal", Barr told senators at a budget hearing that, like a similar House hearing Tuesday, was dominated by questions about special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

Democrats have opened almost a dozen investigations of President Trump, but "at the top of the Democrats' list are three things they really want to see: Trump's tax returns, the full Mueller report, and Avengers: Endgame", Trevor Noah said on Tuesday's Daily Show.

Barr said he was reviewing his department's actions in investigating Trump.

"I don't intend at this stage to send the full, unredacted report to the committee", Barr said, adding that wouldn't ask a court to release grand jury material "Until someone shows me a provision" that allows it to be released.

The White House is saying Democrats will never see Trump's tax returns, and in case "you don't speak rich nerd", Noah said, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin just explained the Trump administrations's game plan: "They're just going to keep reviewing this request until Trump isn't president anymore".

"I believe that our country must respond to any foreign interference with the strongest measures, and we must work with partners at the state level to ensure that our election infrastructure is completely protected", his statement says.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report about that could be done in May or June, Barr said.

"Regardless of what Barr reported, they needed to claim vindication", said Republican strategist Alex Conant, who worked on Sen.

Attorney General William Barr has assembled a team to review controversial counterintelligence decisions made by Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, including actions taken during the probe of the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Aderholt was referring to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant the Federal Bureau of Investigation used to surveil former Trump campaign associate Carter Page over the course of a year.

Barr was testifying for a second day at a congressional budget hearing that was dominated by questions about special counsel Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation.

Critics of the Russian Federation investigation say the warrant on Page was unjustified and have also seized on anti-Trump text messages sent and received by one of the lead agents involved in investigating whether the Trump campaign was colluding with Russian Federation.

There have been concerns within the Justice Department that it is too easy to open an investigation.

This is his first public appearance since releasing his four page summary of the Mueller report.

Though he said the document will be redacted to withhold negative information about peripheral figures in the investigation, he said that would not apply to Trump, who is an officeholder and central to the probe.
