Foreign Minister Pham Binh Binh asked Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah to "ensure a fair trial and free Vietnamese citizen" Doan Thi Huong.

Huong, 30, was accused of smearing the North Korean man with a nerve agent at a Kuala Lumpur airport on Feb 13, 2017, resulting in his death.

The testimony of Huong - who, if found guilty, could receive the death penalty - was scheduled for Monday, but after her co-defendant's release, it was postponed until Thursday as her lawyers also requested the withdrawal of charges.

Aisyah and Huong have maintained since their arrests that they thought they were participating in a prank show and were going to apply lotion to a man's face.

She was given a trial and she was discharged. Four North Korean men Malaysian police had identified as suspects fled the country just hours after Kim's assassination. I don't know the details.

Gooi Soon Seng, Siti Aisyah's lawyer, said his client was "a scapegoat".

Malaysia rejects Vietnam's request to free woman in murder trial
A similar white top was worn by a woman shown in CCTV footage from the terminal minutes after Jong-nam was poisoned to death. The decision means that Doan Thi Huong of Vietnam will remain as the only suspect in the case still behind bars.

Once the court released her, Siti Aisyah, wearing a black traditional Malay dress and headscarf, was rushed to the Indonesian embassy, where she spoke briefly with journalists. "We are making representation to the attorney general for Doan to be taken equally.there must be justice".

Some South Korean lawmakers said the North Korean regime had ordered the assassination of Kim Jong Nam, who had been critical of his family's dynastic rule. Although the two women were being tried together, the cases against them were separate, and the court had asked the Indonesian woman to present her defence first.

Kim Jong Nam was the eldest son of their late father Kim Jong Il, and therefore presented a potential threat to Kim Jong Il's legitimacy as ruler of North Korea. "They (court) deliberated and the charge was withdrawn", he told reporters at the parliament lobby today.

He denied that the Malaysian government caved in to diplomatic pressure to free Siti.

"Miss Aisyah was deceived and had no awareness whatsoever that she was being used as an intelligence tool of North Korea", he wrote.

Thomas wrote in a letter to Indonesia's minister of law and human rights that prosecutors chose to drop Aisyah's charges and release her "taking into account the good relations" between Malaysia and Indonesia.
