The last recorded case of measles in Tarrant County was in January 2015.

Both cases are in unvaccinated people and are linked to an out-of-state traveler contagious with the disease who traveled to the Salem area in late February.

Officials say a Tarrant County resident tested positive for measles after traveling out of the country.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that can sometimes cause severe complications, including brain inflammation, convulsions, deafness and brain damage. The vaccine is also available at other times through that office and through the health division's office in Pontiac, some health providers and many pharmacies.

Symptoms include: High Fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots on the inside of the mouth and red blotchy rashes.

Call ahead to your doctor's office or the hospital if you think you may have been exposed to measles so they can plan to prevent other people from potential exposure.

The outbreak started last week from a man who was visiting from Israel.

OR has reported eight total measles cases so far in 2019.
