Huawei says it has its own OS in case it gets banned

Huawei is accused of using Skycom to violate a decades-old ban on doing business with Iran Huawei Again Reiterates Plans For Its Own Mobile OS, Just In Case

South China Morning Post quotes a Huawei spokesperson as confirming that this operating system does exist, only that the company doesn't believe it would ever use it. If Huawei was prevented from using Android and Windows, it has backup operating systems ready to roll. In an interview with a German publication Die Welt, Huawei Consumer Group Business CEO Richard Yu confirmed that the company has readied a proprietary operating system owing to the tensions between the firm and the USA government. The company wrote in its lawsuit that the USA "unconstitutionally singled out Huawei for punishment". Various company's have attempted and failed to break the duopoly by launching phones with different operating systems. The same ban prohibits major U.S. government contractors from using Huawei equipment, a major blow for the Chinese company's local telecom business.

According to Yu, Huawei would prefer working with Google and Microsoft but could launch its own proprietary operating system if the situation worsens.

Huawei's statement comes days after the company chose to sue the US Government over a ban imposed on its products.

The US has reportedly said it will cooperate less with German intelligence agencies if Germany allows Huawei to take part in its 5G build-outs. A USA export ban previous year prevented United States firms from selling components to ZTE, following accusations it sold equipment to Iran and North Korea.

However, Huawei has confirmed it has a backup OS in case that happens. However, he mentioned that Huawei likes to work with its partners like Google and Microsoft, which provide the Android and Windows operating systems for Huawei's smartphone and laptop portfolio. Many users will have their own favourite apps within the Android ecosystem, which developers say may be the issue in convincing them to jump onto a new platform.
